St. Petersburg Hotels and St. Petersburg Accommodation
(St. Petersburg, North-Western Federal District, Russia, RU)
The accommodation currently available in St. Petersburg has been strongly influenced by the Soviet period of history.
Whilst a small number of the hotels in St. Petersburg are extremely luxurious, most are fairly basic, functional and not terribly European in style.
Some of the most popular lodging options in St. Petersburg has been upgraded in recent years and these hotels offer a good standard of accommodation at a reasonable price, although not all of the rooms will necessarily reflect the appearance of the lobby and reception.
St. Petersburg Hotels and Accommodation: Where to Stay - St. Petersburg, Russia, RU
The whitewashed Russian Court Hotel along the Ul Mitkina stands out as providing some of the best mid-range accommodation in St. Petersburg, boasting good views of the cityscape and the brightly coloured domes of the famous riverside Church of Our Saviour on the Spilled Blood. Particularly central is the Hotel Oktyabrskaya, located on the Ligovskii Prospekt and directly opposite the main train station. Interestingly, the Hotel Oktyabrskaya is amongst the most historic hotels in St. Petersburg and dates back to the mid-19th century.
If money if no object when it comes to accommodation, then the imposing five-star Grand Hotel Europe should be top of your list. Lying along the Mikhailovskaya Ulitsa and within central St. Petersburg, this hotel regularly attracts many big names from the world of showbiz and politics. All of the staff here are extremely welcoming and speak English to a good standard.
Other hotels can be found along the banks of the Neva River, on the north-western side of St. Petersburg on the Vasilievskii Island, and around the south-westerly Baltic Station. If you are visiting the city on a budget, then the St. Petersburg International Hostel on the Sovetskaia Ulitsa is well worth considering and features a choice of accommodation, including twin-bedded rooms. The hostel is well placed and close to the heart of the city and the Nevskii Prospekt thoroughfare.
